How GPS Cross-Checking Works

End-of-Shift Verification

Driver records are not locked until the driver ends their shift and signs a declaration. At that point, Hubfleet automatically cross-checks their work diary entries against GPS data.
If GPS shows movement while the work diary records rest, a red flag appears on the completed shift screen. From there, the operator can:
  • Review the evidence — speed charts, map visualisation, timestamps
  • Create an NCR in a few clicks — all GPS evidence is pre-populated
  • Notify the driver — request an explanation through the app
  • Investigate and close — document corrective action and management review
The flag changes from red → orange when an NCR is issued, and orange → green when the NCR is closed. This gives operators a clear visual status across all completed shifts.

NCR Workflow for GPS Discrepancies & Speed Violations

Every GPS discrepancy or speed violation follows the same systematic process:
  • GPS discrepancies — flagged automatically by Hubfleet at end of shift
  • Speed violations — triggered by your telematics platform
  • NCR evidence — speed charts, map visualisation, GPS timestamps and locations
  • Driver response — notification sent, explanation requested
  • Management review — investigation, risk assessment, corrective action
  • Closure — complete audit trail from detection to resolution
  • Searchable history — every NCR is retained and searchable
The result: systematic handling of every breach with a clear evidence chain for auditors.

Frequently asked questions

How does mobile GPS tracking work?
When drivers use the Hubfleet mobile app for their work diary, GPS location data is automatically collected from their phone. This data is used to cross-check work diary entries at end of shift. No additional hardware is required.
What happens when GPS detects movement during rest?
At the end of each shift, Hubfleet's GPS cross-check automatically flags any movement detected while the driver's work diary indicates they were resting. The flag appears on the completed shift screen — you can then create a Non-Conformance Report (NCR) with a few clicks. The flag changes from red to orange when an NCR is issued, and to green when the NCR is closed. The NCR includes speed charts and a map showing the driver's position and route. The driver is notified and asked to provide an explanation. Management reviews the evidence, investigates, documents corrective action, and closes the NCR with a complete audit trail.
Can we integrate with our existing telematics system?
Yes. Hubfleet integrates with V-DAQ, Teletrac Navman, Geotab, Procon, MiX Telematics, Verizon Connect, Webfleet, and others. Integration brings GPS data directly into Hubfleet for enhanced accuracy and unified compliance management. Contact us to discuss your provider.
Does GPS cross-checking satisfy NHVR requirements?
Yes. Hubfleet is an NHVR-approved EWD with integrated GPS cross-checking. The system provides end-of-shift cross-checking, automatic discrepancy flagging, NCR investigation workflows, and complete audit trails that demonstrate compliance to auditors.
How accurate is mobile phone GPS?
Mobile phone GPS is typically accurate to within 5–10 metres under good conditions, which is sufficient for work diary verification. For enhanced accuracy and additional speed data, third-party telematics integration is recommended.
What if a driver has poor mobile reception?
GPS data is stored locally on the device when reception is poor and automatically uploaded when connectivity is restored. The system maintains complete GPS history even in remote or low-coverage areas.
